Maeslant Barrier in Rotterdam

You're standing by the Maeslantkering, the Maeslant storm surge barrier on the Nieuwe Waterweg near Hoek van Holland. Look at those two enormous steel structures on either side of the water. Together they make up one of the largest moving structures on Earth. This barrier protects Rotterdam and the surrounding area from high water coming in from the sea. It was the final piece of the Delta Works.
