You're standing at the Ponte di Castel Vecchio, also known as the Ponte Scaligero. It's a fortified bridge over the Adige, right in the middle of Verona. Start with the colours. The lower part is white marble, the upper part red brick. You'll see that same brick all over Verona on buildings from the Scaliger era, when the Della Scala family ran the city.
