You're standing at Sant'Anastasia, the largest church in Verona. Just around the corner is the Ponte Pietra, the old bridge across the Adige. Start with the façade. Notice anything? It was never finished. Most of it is bare brick, even the rose window at the top. Only down at street level do you get the showpiece: a grand Gothic doorway with two doors. The slender columns are red, white and black marble. In the arch above there's a painted Holy Trinity, and over the doors small carvings tell the life of Christ, from the Annunciation to the Resurrection.
