You're standing at Rosslyn Chapel, on a small hill above Roslin Glen, about ten kilometres south of Edinburgh. Take a good look at its shape. It seems a bit cut short, and that's because it is. The plan was a large cross-shaped church with a central tower, but only the choir was ever built. In the nineteenth century, the foundations of the unbuilt nave were found, stretching about ninety feet out beneath what's now the graveyard. Look up at the pinnacles on the roof too. During repairs in 2010, workers discovered the stonemasons had built a little chamber in one of them, just for bees.
