You're standing on the Balans in Middelburg, at the Zeeland Slavery Monument. Start with the four granite columns. Two are white, two are black. And see that red band holding them together? It stands for what Black and white people share: a red heart and red blood. Next to the columns is a round pool of water, eight metres across. The monument was designed by Hedi Bogaers.
