You're standing in Battle, in the south of England, on the field of one of the most famous battles in history. On Saturday 14 October 1066, two armies fought right here for the English crown. It's called the Battle of Hastings, but Hastings itself is about eleven kilometres away. The little town around you grew up around the abbey and took its name from the battle.
