You're standing at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, in the south of England. Take a good look at the walls. No grey stone here, but warm red brick. When building started in 1441, that was something really special. This is one of the oldest major brick buildings still standing in England. The bricks were made from local clay, and the builders came from Flanders. A little piece of the Low Countries, right here in Sussex.
