You're standing at Mycenae, on a hill in the Argolis, in the north-east of the Peloponnese. From up here you could watch the whole Argive plain, and whoever held this hill controlled the easy routes to the Isthmus of Corinth. No wonder one of the most powerful strongholds in Greece stood here over three thousand years ago.
