You're standing at the Hunenborg, near Volthe, along the Almelo-Nordhorn canal. At first glance it's mostly woodland. But look closely at the ground. Under those trees lie the remains of a stronghold nearly a thousand years old. It's a ringwork castle: a site enclosed by an earth bank and a moat.
