You're standing at the Castle of Rivoli, up on a hill just outside Turin. This was once a home of the House of Savoy, the family that would later give Italy its kings. Take a good look at the façade. Something feel a bit off? You're right. In 1716 the architect Filippo Juvarra was hired to build a grand palace here, but the work was never finished. Only the two eastern wings were completed, and the façade was left incomplete. That half-built look is exactly what makes the place so striking.
