You're standing at Hackfort Castle, just outside Vorden in the Achterhoek region. Look at that neat, symmetrical front with its large windows and the steps leading up to it. The castle didn't always look like this. It started out as a residential tower, and as early as 1392 records mention a house here with moats and an outer bailey.
