You're standing at Daelenbroeck Castle in Herkenbosch, in the valley of the river Roer. The name gives a clue. Broeck means marshy land, and it was right here, in this soggy ground, that Godfried van Heinsberg decided in 1311 to build a castle to live in and hunt from. It first turns up in written records in 1326.
