Estação de São Bento in Porto

You're standing at São Bento station, right in the historic centre of Porto, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Start with the façade. This big granite building, three storeys high, is shaped like a U and faces the square called Praça Almeida Garrett. Architect José Marques da Silva took his cue from the French Beaux-Arts style: crisp, symmetrical and rather grand. You could almost forget that ordinary commuter trains leave from here.
