You're standing at the Grote Kerk of Dordrecht, the Church of Our Lady, the largest church in town. Look at the tower first. Notice anything? It leans, just like the tower in Pisa. The soggy ground couldn't carry its weight. It was meant to reach a hundred and eight metres, with an extra eight-sided storey and a spire. Because of the lean, that never happened. Now it stands sixty-five metres tall, with four clock faces near the top. Between 1953 and 1973 the tower got a new concrete foundation to stop it sinking any further.
