You're standing at the Fraeylemaborg in Slochteren, one of the most important country houses, or borgen, in the province of Groningen. Look at the house with its eight-sided tower and its two bells. Behind that front lies a very old heart. Research in 2004 showed that a stone house stood here before 1300, a fortified house next to a farm.
