You're standing at the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki. Don't expect an ancient palace here. This building is actually fairly young, and that's part of the story. In 1977 Greece launched a nationwide architecture competition for a new museum. The winner was architect Kyriakos Krokos. Even so, it took another twelve years before construction started, in March 1989. The building was finished in October 1993.
