Fort Harrevelderschans in Haaksbergen

You're standing at the Harrevelder Schans, an old fortification in the Buurserzand nature reserve, just east of the village of Haaksbergen. Take a good look around. What looks like a few grassy mounds is actually a square earthen fort, about forty by forty metres. The ramparts are ten metres wide and two metres high. A half-bastion juts out at each corner. And all the way around runs a moat four metres wide.
