The Pionierroute is a circular ride of just over 124 km through the border country of south-east Drenthe and the Emsland in Germany, and is part of Emsland Tourismus's United Countries Tour. You ride past Emmen, Coevorden, Schoonebeek and Ter Apel, through the Bargerveen nature reserve, the Bourtanger Moor - Veenland nature park and the Emmerdennen woods with hunebed (megalithic tomb) D45, and past the Industrieel Smalspoor Museum. A third is cycle path and it is flat. There are a hundred benches along the way, but we know of only two toilets and one water tap, so bring enough to drink.
