You're standing at the Katarina Elevator, or Katarinahissen as the Swedes call it. Look up at the tower and the walkway high above you. This lift links Slussen, the lock area down here, with the heights of Södermalm. It has always been a handy shortcut between Katarinavägen, Slussen and Mosebacke torg, the square up top. It saves you quite a climb.
