You're standing at Caerphilly Castle, the largest castle in Wales and the second largest in the United Kingdom. Start by looking at the water. The castle sits in the middle of artificial lakes, created by damming a local stream. One historian called them the most elaborate water defences in all Britain. They had a clever purpose: attackers couldn't dig tunnels to bring the walls down.
