You're standing at the Château de Chinon, high on a rock above the river Vienne. Look how far the walls stretch. This medieval fortress is about 500 metres long and 100 metres wide. It's really three castles in a row, separated by deep dry moats. From east to west, they're the Fort Saint-Georges, the Château du Milieu and the Fort du Coudray.
