You're standing at the Royal Crescent in Bath, a graceful half-moon of thirty houses. Watch how the façade sweeps past you in one long curve, about a hundred and fifty metres from end to end. It looks like a single palace, but it's actually a row of terraced houses. In fact, it was the very first crescent of terraced houses ever built, between 1767 and 1774, designed by John Wood the Younger.
