You're standing at the Monastery of the Holy Trinity, or Agia Triada in Greek, one of the famous monasteries of Meteora. Have a look around. The monastery sits on top of a rock column more than four hundred metres high, about five hundred and seventy metres above sea level. These rocks are roughly sixty million years old. They're made of sandstone and conglomerate, shaped by rivers and pushed up by earthquakes. No wonder people call them heavenly columns.
