You're standing at the Great Meteoron, officially the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour. Start by looking up. The monastery sits on top of a sheer rock, more than four hundred metres above the Pineios valley. Up here you're about 613 metres above sea level. It's one of the oldest monasteries of Meteora, and one of the four where monks still live today.
