You're standing at Bertramka, an old villa in Prague where Mozart loved to stay. Start with the wall around the grounds. The house was built around 1700, and even then a wall enclosed the whole estate. Nobody knows who built it. For centuries the land belonged to a Carthusian monastery. Back then this was countryside, well outside the city walls, below the vineyards on Black Hill. Wealthy people from Prague came out here to relax, but it was a working farm too, producing fruit, wheat, milk, poultry and vegetables. The name comes from Franziska and Franz von Bertram, who lived here in the mid-eighteenth century.
