You're standing at the Church of St. Trophime in Arles, the town's former cathedral. Start with the west portal, the big main entrance. This carving is considered one of the finest examples of Romanesque sculpture anywhere. Up in the arch, Christ sits enthroned. Around him are the symbols of the four Evangelists: a man, a lion, an ox and an eagle. The Apostles sit below him. On the left, a procession of the chosen walks towards heaven. On the right, sinners are being thrown into hell. It's the Last Judgement, carved in stone.
