You're standing at the Greek Theatre of Syracuse, one of the largest theatres in the whole Greek world. Take in that huge sweep of steps. Almost all of it was carved straight out of the rock of the Temenite hill. Climb to the top and you'll see why the Greeks chose this spot. The view stretches across the bay to the island of Ortygia.
