You're standing on the Piazza del Campo in Siena, and right in front of you is the Palazzo Pubblico, the town hall. It still works as the town hall today. Take a look at the shape of the façade. It curves gently inwards, following the curve of the square. This palace really is the focal point of the Campo. The ground floor is stone, the upper floors are brick, topped with battlements. Brick was cheaper, which left money for fancy details elsewhere. Check out the upper windows: pointed arches with three lobes, a classic Sienese touch.
