You're standing on the Piazza del Campo, the big shell-shaped main square of Siena. Look at the town hall, the Palazzo Pubblico, and then follow the slender tower beside it all the way up. That's the Torre del Mangia. It was built between 1338 and 1348, and back then it was one of the tallest non-church towers in medieval Italy. At around 102 metres, it's still the second tallest in the country.
