Asansör in Konak

You're standing at the Asansör in Karataş, one of İzmir's old neighbourhoods. Asansör is Turkish for elevator, borrowed from the French word ascenseur. And that tells you exactly what this building is all about. Take a look at the steep cliff. Down below is a narrow strip along the coast, and up top the rest of the neighbourhood sits on the hillside. Getting from one to the other used to mean a serious climb.
