You're standing at Chartwell, the country house Winston Churchill called home for more than forty years. First, turn around and take in the view. Those rolling hills of the Weald of Kent are the real reason he came here. As he put it himself, he bought Chartwell for that view. The house itself never impressed him much, and critics still agree. It is listed at the highest grade, but for its history, not its looks.
