You're standing at the Yser Tower in Diksmuide, right by the banks of the river Yser. Look up. This tower is 84 metres tall, which makes it the highest peace monument in Europe. Down at the base, each of the four sides carries the same message in a different language: Nooit meer oorlog, Plus jamais de guerre, No more War and Nie wieder Krieg. Those were the languages of the soldiers who fought here in the First World War. Near the top you'll spot the letters AVV and VVK arranged in a cross. They stand for All for Flanders, Flanders for Christ.
