You're standing at Wilanów Palace, in the Wilanów district of Warsaw. It was built for King John III Sobieski. In 1677 he bought a village here for a summer residence, away from hot and noisy Warsaw. His secretary, Augustyn Locci, became the architect, even though he had no building experience at all. And yet this is now one of the most remarkable Baroque buildings in Poland.
