You're standing on the Rathausmarkt, right in front of Hamburg City Hall. Start by looking up at the tower. It's 112 metres tall, with 436 steps inside. Together with the spires of the big churches, it's one of the landmarks of the city's skyline. Notice the green roof? It's copper, and over more than a century the weather has slowly turned it that colour.
