You're standing at the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein in Vaduz, the museum of modern and contemporary art of this tiny principality. Take a good look at the building. It's a closed, dark block, a kind of black box. Swiss architects Meinrad Morger, Heinrich Degelo and Christian Kerez made it from tinted concrete and black basalt stone. Go ahead and walk up close. Little river pebbles are set into the outside walls. They give the façade a subtle colour and tie the building to the landscape of the Rhine valley. The surface was finished by hand, and if you look carefully, you'll see the surroundings reflected in it. Long bands of windows cut through the cube.
