Castle Havixhorst in Meppel

You're standing at the Havixhorst, on the estate of the same name in De Schiphorst, near Meppel. Take a look at the old manor house. This is a havezate, the name used in the province of Drenthe for a noble country house whose owner held certain rights. The Havixhorst was officially recognised as one in 1618. The estate lies on the north bank of the little river Reest.
