You're standing at the Montale, the smallest of San Marino's three towers. It sits on the lowest peak of Monte Titano. Take a good look at its shape. Most medieval towers are square or rectangular, but this one has a five-sided floor plan, and an irregular one at that. It's just under eighteen metres tall, with walls about a metre thick. Up top you'll see a pronounced cornice and battlements running all the way round, exactly what you'd expect from a defensive tower.
