You're standing at the Quattro Canti, the Four Corners, right in the heart of old Palermo. Its official name is Piazza Vigliena, after the Spanish viceroy who had it built. This is where two great streets meet: the Corso Vittorio Emanuele, still known locally as the Cassaro, and the Via Maqueda. Turn around slowly. On each of the four corners there's an almost identical façade, and every one of them curves inward. Together with the streets, they form an octagon.
