Ruins Sandal Castle in Wakefield

You're standing at Sandal Castle, the ruin of a medieval castle in Sandal Magna, on the edge of Wakefield. Start with that tall, rounded mound. That's the motte, raised to about ten metres on top of a natural sandstone ridge. Around it ran a moat seven metres deep. From up here, the castle looked out over the River Calder.
