You're standing at Pontefract Castle, or at least what's left of it. People used to call it Pomfret. It sits on a rock on the east side of town, above All Saints' Church. Have a look around. You'll see chunks of wall, foundations and a mound. Hard to believe, but this must once have been one of the most impressive castles in Yorkshire.
