You're standing at the Niederwald monument, high on a hill above Rüdesheim. First, turn around. Below you flows the Rhine, and on the far bank lies the town of Bingen. The slopes down to Rüdesheim and Assmannshausen are covered in vineyards, while behind you a dense forest of oak and beech begins. This is the southwestern tip of the Taunus hills.
