You're standing on Freedom Square, right in the heart of Novi Sad, in front of the Name of Mary Church. It's the largest church in the city. Locals often call it the cathedral. Strictly speaking, that's not right, because Novi Sad belongs to the Diocese of Subotica, and the real cathedral is over there. But look up and you'll see why the nickname stuck. The bell tower rises seventy-two metres and is topped with a golden cross. Only two churches in the whole Bačka region are taller.
