Samuil's Fortress in Ohrid

You're standing at Samuel's Fortress, up in the old town of Ohrid. Have a look along the walls. They're thick, grey and solid, and they go on for quite a way. According to the sources, the old town wall still has eighteen towers and four gates. Altogether it runs for about three kilometres and reaches sixteen metres high in places. That's serious protection for a city.
