You're standing at Plaošnik, or simply Plaoš, an archaeological site and holy place in Ohrid. Samuel's Fortress is only about two hundred and fifty meters away, further up the hill to the north. Have a look around. Old foundations and fragments of wall are everywhere, traces of centuries of building, tearing down and starting again. Work is under way to restore the site to its original state.
