You're standing at Miramare Castle, a white castle on a rocky point on the Gulf of Trieste. The sea all around you is exactly why it's here. Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg, younger brother of Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria, loved the sea. He became commander in chief of the Austrian navy. The story goes that he was caught in a storm out here, and afterwards he picked this bare rock for his home.
