You're standing at the ruins of Linlithgow Palace, on the shore of Linlithgow Loch, about fifteen miles west of Edinburgh. In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries this was one of the main homes of the Scottish kings and queens. Two of them were born here: James V in 1512, and Mary, Queen of Scots, in December 1542.
