You're standing at the Ir. D.F. Wouda pumping station near Lemmer, in Friesland. This is the largest steam-powered pumping station in the world that's still in working order. Start with the tall, freestanding chimney. It has a story. During construction, just after it was finished, lightning struck it. The lightning conductor hadn't been fitted yet because the mortar was still too wet. The whole chimney had to be taken down and rebuilt.
