You're standing in Chamla, an abandoned village high up in southern Bulgaria. Take a look around and listen for a moment. Chances are all you'll hear is the wind. You're at roughly 1,650 metres here, and for a long time this was the highest village in Bulgaria with people living in it all year round. Officially it still is the highest village, because on paper Chamla remains a village, even though nobody has lived here for years.
