You're standing on Friar Gate in Derby, outside number 41. This is Pickford's House, an elegant Georgian town house. The architect Joseph Pickford built it between 1763 and 1765 as a home for his own family. But it was more than a home. It was his business card too. Anyone who came by could see what Pickford was capable of, and that was meant to bring in new clients.
