You're standing at the New Castle of Manzanares el Real, also called the Castle of the Mendozas. Close by lies the Santillana reservoir, and behind it rise the mountains of the Sierra de Guadarrama. Take a look at the stone. The whole castle is built of granite. It's square, with round towers at the corners. See the stone balls running along the edges? That's Isabelline Gothic, the late Gothic style of Queen Isabella's day. The real eye-catcher is the big hexagonal main tower.
